Manolo in The Book of Life
I would like to talk about Manolo Sanchez, he is a movie character in ‘The Book of Life.’ Before talking about Manolo, I would like to tell you about ‘The Book of Life.’ This movie was made in America, but background is San Angel, Mexico, The Land of Remember, and The Land of Forget. This story is based on 2nd November, Day of the Dead.
Our hero, Manolo has brown hair, and he is tall. I think, he also has handsome face. He likes music, and plays the guitar. He is very kind and tender, but he is a very brave person. His job is bullfighter, but he does not want to fight with bulls. So, he does not like his job. For him, bullfighter is just family’s job, and his father wanted him to grow up to become a bullfighter. He thinks bullfighter is not suitable for him, instead he wanted to be a musician. He has a best friend, and his name is Joaquin, he is called ‘Hero of San Angel.’ Joaquin is full of conceit, but he is faithful. Manolo and Joaquin are best friends, but they are rival because they love Maria at the same time, she is their friend, and San Angel Village’s head daughter. She is so beautiful.
Manolo Sanchez experienced three big events, and these events changed Manolo`s life. Before he experienced these events, people in San Angel, even his father, ignored Manolo and he did not propose to Maria. After he experienced three big events, people in San Angel welcomed Manolo, and he married Maria. First event is Manolo met Sanchez family in ‘The Land of Remember.’ Manolo was dead because Jabalba wanted to win a bet with La Muereutte, so he killed Manolo. Manolo went to The Land of Remember, and he met Sanchez family and his mother. He missed his mother, so when he met his mother, he felt really happy. Sanchez family heard Manolo`s story, and they helped Manolo to live again.
Second event is Manolo passed the maze, and met Candle Maker. Manolo, his grandfather, and his mother had an adventure because he went to The Land of Forget to meet La Muereutte. They met Candle Maker in an unknown world. They went to The Land of Forget with Candle Maker, and met La Muereutte. Manolo told her why he was dead. La Muereutte felt so angry, so she called Jibalba, and asked that Manolo live again.
Final event is Manolo won a bet with Jibalba. Jibalba was afraid of La Muereutte, but he did not want Manolo to live again. So, Jibalba suggested a bet to Manolo. The bet was Manolo fought bulls which was killed by Sanchez family. At first, Manolo was attacked by bulls unilaterally, but Manolo changed fighting strategy. He did not hold a knife, but played a guitar, and he apologized to bulls because his family killed them. Bulls forgave him, and Manolo won the bet! Manolo lived again, and went back to San Angel, and Maria, Joaquin and Manolo fought with chakal. They won, and saved San Angle.
I think this movie was very great! First, movie is very colorful. The best scene showing the colors was The Land of Remember. The Land of Remember was very luxurious, and colorful. Second, movie showed Mexico’s mood although this was made in America. Characters usually spoke English, but sometimes they spoke Spanish like ‘señorita’ because Mexico uses Spanish.
The movie was over, and we don’t know their story anymore, but we can think about their story. I think Manolo quit being a bullfighter to be a musician because he didn’t like being a bullfighter, and he likes music and plays the guitar. So, he travels all of the world with Maria, and he plays the guitar.
I really felt satisfaction from this movie. So, I strongly recommended it.
